Covington, Georgia is a city of around 15,000 people located about half an hour outside of Atlanta. But this quaint town is instantly recognizable to many as the filming location for a bunch of TV shows and movies. Covington is perhaps best known as Mystic Falls, Virginia, home of The Vampire Diaries. Here are a few ways fans can get a taste of the show.

Visit the Town Square

Covington Square is home to the iconic clock tower, which is part of the county courthouse. The rest of the square is lined with historic buildings and features a grassy area in the center, where many scenes from TVD were filmed. There are also several boutiques in the square full of Vampire Diaries-themed merchandise.

Mystic Grill

Grab a Bite at Mystic Grill and Scoops

Also located in the town square are Mystic Grill and Scoops. Mystic Grill is now an actual restaurant modeled after the famed eatery on TVD. The food and drinks were good, so it’s definitely worth a visit! But keep in mind it can get busy – there was a line of people waiting for it to open on a Saturday morning when we visited (though we didn’t have to wait very long for a table). Just around the square from the grill is Scoops ice cream, a favorite spot of the cast during filming.

Take a Tour

For those who want a more in-depth look at filming locations throughout town, including outside private residences that served as characters’ homes, Mystic Falls Tours provides a Vampire Stalkers tour. They have a storefront as well with an on-site museum.

There are many more filming locations for fans to visit in Covington, beyond TVD. The town has also served as the filming location for other TV shows including Sweet Magnolias, The Dukes of Hazzard, and In the Heat of the Night, as well as movies including Sweet Home Alabama and My Cousin Vinny.

Cheers!
