The Atlanta Botanical Garden is a city getaway brimming with both local and rare plant life. In addition to natural wonders, the garden also features kid-friendly attractions, making it a wonderful place for children and adults alike. Here’s what you need to know to plan your visit to the Atlanta Botanical Garden.
About the Atlanta Botanical Garden
The garden opened in 1976 in Atlanta’s Midtown and has been “growing” ever since. Today, the 30-acre garden is home to celebrated plant life, Children’s Garden, Canopy Walk, the ever-stunning Earth Goddess, rotating exhibits, and a variety of activities. Depending on the time of year, the garden hosts displays and activities for kids, like a splash pad in the summer and holiday lights in the winter, as well as weekly classes and other events.
Tickets and Hours
Tickets for non-members to the Atlanta Botanical Garden tickets range in price from about $24 to $35, depending on whether it’s a weekday or weekend, if the ticket is for a child or adult, and whether you select a ticket with flexible rescheduling. Non-members should also purchase tickets online in advance. Members get in free.
It’s also worth noting that parking costs up to $30, depending on how long you are at the garden.
Garden hours vary by season. The garden opens at 9:00 AM throughout most of the year, but the closing time is earlier in the cooler months and later in the warmer months. Check the Atlanta Botanical Garden website for current hours.
Location and Transportation
The Atlanta Botanic Garden is located in Piedmont Park at 1345 Piedmont Avenue, Atlanta, GA 30309. Parking is available at the SAGE Parking Facility, which can be accessed via Piedmont Avenue or Monroe Drive.
The garden is also accessible by the city’s MARTA transit system. Take Bus #27, which stops at the garden entrance on Piedmont Avenue.
Rules and Tips
-Consider the time of year when visiting the gardens. While there are attractions year-round, the plant life will vary depending on the season. What’s blooming in August may not be around in February.
-If visiting during the summer, bring a bathing suit and change of clothes (for children only)! That way you’ll be prepared for splash pad fun.
-Outside food and drink are prohibited. (Make sure to try one of the garden’s delicious seasonal cocktails, if that’s your thing!)
-Pets are not allowed; service animals are permitted.
-Just keep in mind the garden is full of beautiful, rare, and delicate plants, and make sure curious little hands stay away (unless in a designated play area where touching the plants is explicitly allowed).
Overall, the Atlanta Botanic Garden is truly magical, and a wonderful place to spend the day with the whole family. So relax, have a stroll, and enjoy the views. Cheers!
